Dear Creators of poetry, visual poetry, hybrid works,
You have 10 days left to send me your weird, joyous, wild, freaky, wondrous, whimsical, colourful, clanking, squeaking, feathery, feral, intense, sensual, silly, thoughtful, quiet, tiny, humming, unclassifiable work for NationalPoetryMonth.ca.
You can read all the details at AngelHousePress.com, but I wanted to emphasize a few points.
NationalPoetryMonth.ca is our annual celebration of poetry that transcends boundaries, both geographical and genre. The more you play with form and deconstruct traditional poetry, the more interested I’m going to be.
AngelHousePress prioritizes work by women and non-binary creators who are mad, crip, neurodiverse, chronically ill, Black, Indigenous, of Colour, transgender, lesbian, bisexual, gay, queer. I’m really into the idea of creating a space and community for those who have been systematically excluded from the literary, small press and visual poetry canons. And yes, these canons still exist.
Once again this year, we are going to be able to pay our contributors, thanks to a crowd funding campaign that is currently at 82%% and ends on March 12. My goal is to pay each contributor for NationalPoetryMonth.ca and Experiment-O, our annual pdf magazine that comes out in November, at least $50. If I receive more money, I will divide it between the contributors (after paying the fees I have to pay for IndieGoGo, bank and paypal transfers.) I am adamant about the need to pay writers and artists.
Please read the guidelines carefully when you submit work. If you have questions, please e-mail me at amanda at angelhousepress dot com. I am getting some superb and interesting submissions and I want to have a lot to choose from so that I can fulfill the goals outlined above and so that I have possible contributors for Experiment-O later this year.
If you can share the call with all you know, I’d really appreciate this. Let’s build a strong community of kindred misfit creators whose voices deserve to be not just heard but celebrated and valued.
