Today is the deadline for poems for the May issue of Bywords.ca Guidelines on site.
//
Greetings Dear Readers,
Happy National Poetry Month. Our three poets in the April issue have something in common: they have never had work published in Bywords.ca before. They write to us of grief and despair through the exhilaration of autumn air, the scent of clean linen and the solace of an unholy love. I hope you enjoy the poems.
To celebrate National Poetry Month, head over to the League of Canadian Poets site, Poets.ca where the theme is joy or visit Chaudiere Books’ blog to read poems daily. You can also check out NationalPoetryMonth.ca run through my own press, AngelHousePress where you can read poems and visual poems that transcend the boundaries of genre and geography. You can make poetry zines and hand them out to friends and strangers. You can visit your local independent bookstore and buy new collections or you can go to the library and borrow poetry. You can read your poems at open mics, such as 2-for-1 and Art House and submit them to local journals, such as Bywords.ca, Common House Magazine and flo literary journal, Canthius and Arc Poetry Magazine. Poetry is everywhere. We celebrate it daily but if you need a little extra reminder, this month is a chance to mark the long existence of poetry, which continues to thrive, regardless or perhaps because of a world full of grief, trouble, injustice and yes, sometimes even hope.
