In November 2009 I developed pneumonia and full body sepsis. I was in Intensive Care for fourteen days where I was intubated. They were able to cure the pneumonia, but I worsened to the point of death. The doctors told Charles, my husband that he had the choice of my dying in ICU or on the operating table. They told him I was too weak for surgery, but it was up to him. He chose surgery. I had a toxic mega colon. They removed it. I survived.
Volume 1 of Beast Body Epic was published as a physical book in 2023 by AngelHousePress and is still available. Those of you who have a paid subscription to Alice Thru the Looking Glass have access to a free pdf of the book.
My near-death health crisis is a subject that will constantly be part of my life and I will likely continue to write about it and create art related to it.
Thanks to everyone who reads my post and who engages in discussion with me about them, as long as you don’t offer unsollicited advice, which I cannot stand, even when well meaning. I really appreciate your interest and support. If you have reading recommendations or art recommendations, I’d love to hear them. If you are in Ottawa as a local or just visiting, please give me a shout and we can go to one of my beloved cafes for a little social time together.
Happy 2026! I hope that isn’t an oxymoron.
