Beast Body Epic's Toronto Launch
Sunday, November 19, 2023 3pm, the Tranzac Club, The Living Room
Dear Toronto friends,
I hope to see you in November to celebrate the launch of Beast Body Epic and also to mark my sixtieth birthday. Joining me in the celebration will be five fabulous writers and dear friends:
Jim Johnstone, Kirby, Marcus McCann, Rasiqra Revulva and Dani Spinosa. We will read and have books available for sale. I’m rarely in Toronto, so this is an opportunity for friends to stop by, say hi, buy a copy of Beast Body Epic and enjoy the company of these fine people, and buy their books too!
Jim Johnstone is a Toronto-based poet, editor, and critic. His most recent books include a poetry collection titled The King of Terrors (Coach House Books, 2023), and Write, Print, Fold, Staple: On Poetry and Micropress in Canada (Gaspereau Press, 2023).
KIRBY’s work includes Behold (2023), a stage adaption of Poetry is Queer (Palimpsest Press, 2021) What Do You Want to Be Called? (Anstruther Press, 2020) This Is Where I Get Off (Permanent Sleep Press, 2019) She’s Having a Doris Day (KFB, 2017) & editor NOT YOUR BEST No. 2, The Queer Ass Fuck Issue (KFB 2021). Their new collection, She, comes out with KFB 2024, and they’re at work on a follow-up to Poetry is Queer, MORE. Their Substack column, “The First Time” can be found at Send My Love To Anyone. They are the publisher at knife | fork | book poetryisqueer.com
Marcus McCann is a writer whose most recent work is Park Cruising: What Happens When We Wander Off the Path (Anansi, 2023), a book of essays that uses public sex as a jumping off point for discussions of empathy, consent, park planning, policing, and law reform. Marcus is also the author of three books of poems and ten chapbooks. He has been awarded the John Newlove Award and the EJ Pratt Medal. A former editor of Xtra, he now practices law in Toronto. marcusmccann.com, IG: mmccnn, photocredit by Jason Lee
Rasiqra Revulva is a disabled queer femme writer, multi-media artist, editor, musician, and performer; developer and co-editor of the Hybrid/Experimental Section at The Ex-Puritan; and half of the experimental electronic duo The Databats (Slice Records). She has published three sold-out chapbooks of glitch-illustrated and/or augmented poetry: Cephalopography (words(on)pages, 2016), If You Forget the Whipped Cream, You're No Good As A Woman (Gap Riot Press, 2018), and Sailor, C'est l'heure (The Blasted Tree, 2021). Cephalopography 2.0 (Wolsak & Wynn, 2020), is her award-nominated debut collection.
Dani Spinosa (she/herses) is a poet of digital and print media, a software engineer, and a flavoured coffee enthusiast. She has published several chapbooks of poetry, several more peer-reviewed journal articles on poetry, one long scholarly book, and one pink poetry book.
