Between the Covers - Crafting with Ursula
Hi everyone,
On Tuesday, May 30, 2023, I will have the pleasure of talking with David Naimon, host of Between the Covers on the AngelHousePress podcast, the Small Machine Talks. I began to listen to BtC regularly in the fall of 2022 and I’ve been a dedicated listener since.
One of my favourite parts of the show is the Crafting with Ursula series in which writers discuss the work of Ursula K. Le Guin in terms of their own writing. It’s a fascinating exploration and includes their connections to Le Guin. It was recorded as a 12-part series in 2022.
I listened to the 12 episodes while walking to and from my fitness class, about 8 kms three times a week. I was truly engaged and fascinated by what I learned about Le Guin’s work and also about contemporary writers working in science fiction and fantasy, nature writing, writing for children, translation and feminist retellings and more. The entire show has made me excited about reading, but this series within the podcast has reinvigorated my interest in writing fiction, and for that, I am very grateful.
Then in the past month or so, in the evenings and weekends, I had the pleasure of sharing the experience with my husband. We listened together from our home office. For my second listen, I sat at my desk and doodled because I love doodling and also because it’s a way to help me focus and possibly remember. Here are the doodles.
