Bywords.ca wants your poems
a call for current/former Ottawans

After receiving very few submissions for the July issue of Bywords.ca, I thought I would send out an appeal for our August issue.
WHAT
BYWORDS.CA CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS for unpublished poetry of up to 250 words and 45 lines.
WHO
Current or former Ottawa/National Capital Region students, residents and workers,
WHEN
Deadline for the August issue is July 15, but we publish poems monthly on Bywords.ca, so you are welcome to send us poems at any time.
HOW
Please read the guidelines carefully on Bywords.ca to ensure that you are eligible.
Prepare a submission package that includes the following:
up to 5 unpublished poems;
a biography;
a current Canadian mailing address;
your legal name (so that we can pay you).
E-mail your submission as an attachment (doc, docx, rtf files only) to submissions at bywords dot ca

HONORARIA
Thanks to the City of Ottawa we are able to pay an honorarium.

If chosen by our selection committee, your poem will be published on Bywords.ca. Poems published between 09/23 and 08/24 are considered for the 2024 John Newlove Poetry Award judged by Toronto poet, Jim Johnstone.
If your poem is selected as the recipient of the John Newlove Award, you will have the opportunity
to have a chapbook edited and published by Bywords.ca;
to read twice at the fall Ottawa International Writers Festival, once for the Newlove Award Celebration and Reading and again to launch your chapbook the next year;
to receive an honorarium for your reading.
two honourable mentions will also read at the OIWF and receive honoraria for their reading.
