Did you know that I post details about Ottawa’s literary, spoken word, storytelling and nonfiction events in a section of this Substack daily?
If you’d like to receive news of these events in your inbox or on your phone thru the Substack app, you can subscribe here: https://amandaearl.substack.com/s/bywordsca
These listings come for the Bywords.ca events calendar, which I compile with the help of fellow editors, event organizers, publishers and authors in the National Capital Region.
I volunteer my time for this because I want people to know about Ottawa’s cultural scene is rich and thriving. I also want to ensure that no one misses an event because they haven’t heard of it.
Just this week, I added a new poetry circle to the calendar, taking place in Hintonburg. There are open mics, book launches, meetings of groups such as the Ottawa Independent Writers Association and the Capital Crime mystery group. We are a hotbed of genres, from romance to spoken word poetry. I invite you to subscribe for free to find out what’s going on in this City’s arts community.
If you’d like to support my efforts through a free or paid subscription, I’d really appreciate it. No obligation and my posts will always be free.
Stay tuned for other posts about Bywords.ca’s poetry publication, which has been in existence for more than 20 years and features emerging and established poets who are either current or former Ottawa students, residents and workers. Since 2003 we have received funding from the City of Ottawa, and I’m proud to say that we pay our contributors. I believe in the importance of paying artists and have been fighting for their right to payment since my first days as managing editor of Bywords.ca through my curation of AngelHousePress. More on all that later.
Have a beautiful Sunday, friends.
