Glory Box
Beast Body Epic Soundtrack
This is for section IV of Beast Body Epic. It’s a long poem that centers around the pain and itchiness that drove me crazy both in the hospital and afterwards.
The song is by Portishead and what I love in particular is Beth Gibbon’s jazzy sounding voice in this song and the echoing return. I love electric guitar, but its fuzziness always reminds of the way I feel/have felt when in pain, especially before the pain meds kick in.
In 2019, I buried some of the pages of the Beast Body Epic manuscript--the ones specifically about pain--in a friend’s backyard. They are still there. Here’s a little video from the burial.
Sometimes I am still haunted by memories of that time.
Pain is ongoing for many. For me, for you maybe. Sometimes there’s very little that can be done about it. There’s something fucking great about dealing with it by burying pages about it, and I know it’s going to be very satisfying to burn up those pages.
