Imaging a year off
Image description: a road covered with yellow green buds and flanked by trees in their new greenness. In the distance a blue sky.
I think about how wonderful that would be.
If I took a year off, if both Charles and I could do so. Wake at whatever time our bodies chose. In this fantasy, we have no money woes.
We eat and get outside as soon as we can. It is a lovely spring day. We spend a long morning at our favourite cafe. We have one of our fascinating conversations that lead us into rabbit holes, incite a wander to elsewhere.
Elsewhere could be a store that sells foods from a culture other than our own or an abandoned space or a gallery. Or a garden.
At home we rest, we sleep,.we eat. We play backgammon. Sometimes I write.
You know what? This is basically our lives right now already except we add looking for work and Charles working on his passion project, my volunteer work and the occasional writing or editing gig.
We have a very good life. Most of us will never have the luxury of taking a year off from obligations and responsibilities but we can take holidays. Even if they are just moments free from worry to enjoy the sun, the taste of strong, dark coffee, holding hands with a beloved while walking down the street, a good afternoon nap.
i urge you to give yourself moments off. To savour. To be grateful to be alive. As i am.
