It’s July! The 7th month of the year. It’s been a rich, creative and joyous year so far. Sometimes challenging but more revelatory than insurmountable. I am grateful to all of you who read and follow my posts here and especially those who engage with me via message and e-mail. It’s great to know I’m not writing in a vacuum. I don’t want to be just another dust bunny.
I continue to work on reviews of poetry and prose for literary journals. I’m currently reading a novel to submit by the end of the summer. I have a stack of books to review and nowhere to send them. I’ll keep plugging away at Canadian literary journals. The number of journals that never respond to queries fascinates me. How do you run a magazine and not engage with queries?
I am grateful to Arc Poetry Magazine, the Humber Literary Review, Canthius, Event Magazine, the Malahat Review and Canadian Notes and Queries for responding to my queries, and in many cases, for editing and publishing my reviews.
On July 28, 2024 at 2pm EDT on Zoom, I will have the pleasure of reading with two fine poets and friends, AJ Dolman and Concetta Principe. We will be reading from our recent books. All three works address physical and mental health issues, and tackle issues such as misogyny, ableism and racism. I will be interested to see how the works work together and resonate. It would be great to see you. You can register for the event to get the Zoom link here. Or e-mail me at amanda at angelhousepress dot com. I am grateful to the Writers Union of Canada for sponsoring my reading.

In October, I will be doing a workshop entitled Visual Poetry for Fun and Exploration with the League of Canadian Poets. More info will be available later in the summer, but suffice to say I am excited to have the opportunity to present a workshop of vispo, one of my favourite disciplines and artistic practices.
I have been working on a long poem manuscript for forthcoming grant applications and a song / rhyming poem for the next Art House Open Mic I will be able to attend, sometime in mid-July.
If you are looking for an editor/mentor for your poetry, prose, visual poetry or hybrid work, please consider working with me. More info and testimonials are available here.
I also host and organize readings. I have a Zoom account for virtual readings and can do the social media promotion, digital posters and hosting duties as well for a small fee.
If you have inspiring and intriguing quotes to share, please reach out. I’d love to include them in the quotes of the week feature.
Thank you to those who have supported my efforts via a paid or free subscription or by buying me a coffee.
