Sandra Ridley, the Season of the Haunt
a multi-vocal video poem from Vixen (Book*Hug Press, 2023)
I urge you to watch this utterly gorgeous and chilling video-poem created by dear friend and brilliant poetesse, sister in poetry, Sandra Ridley from her latest book, Vixen, a long poem that addresses violence, predators and victims through the analogy of the fox hunt. I am thrilled to have been invited to read from the book for this video along with over thirty women.
Here she is introducing Vixen:
And here are other videos from the book
I think of the forthcoming International Women’s Day on March 8, the ongoing violence against women and non-binary people, intimate partner violence, missing and murdered indigenous women…it’s a litany of violence and hatred. We need art that engages with it. I thank Sandra Ridley for her brave and beautiful poetry. For Vixen. for Sylvija, for the Counting House, for Post-Apothecary, for Fallout, for Rest Cure. I thank all women and non-binary artists for doing this work of resistance and engagement with the dreaded, the anxiety, the taboo and unspoken aspects of being female and non-binary today, yesterday, tomorrow and forever.
I know I'm going to love these. Thanks for sharing, Amanda!
