The Art House Cafe is one of the beloved community spaces in Centretown. Housed at 555 Somerset West, it has become the heart of this neighbourhood, thanks, in part to its engagement with arts and culture, making a space for art, music and poetry, community gatherings and more in this heritage building.
It is one of my favourite local haunts. I go there for their excellent Americano, the friendliness of the staff, the fantastic open mic hosted by Miguel Fernandes and the walls of art made by local artists. It is a second home for me and for many people who visit.
Art House is raising money to help expand the event space and add an accessible washroom. From May 24-26, 2024, Art House is hosting fun events, including music, a collage button making workshop, a vintage 1920s casino night as well as an auction, raffles, contests and a big draw.
Art House Cafe is in need of $50,000 to make these improvements and better serve the community. If you can help, please donate.
It is a difficult time to run a business in downtown Ottawa, especially recovering from the lockdowns and emptying of the downtown area when Covid 19 started. Art House Cafe contributes so much to the City. It is a vital and necessary space.
Please spread the word: you can follow Art House Cafe on Facebook and Instagram, and share their posts and stories. There is solidarity and strength in working together. Let’s help Art House and help the community enjoy this important and wonderful place.
Thanks to Geneviève Bétournay and the staff of Art House Cafe for all they do.
