Discussion
We wanted to try a new omelet for our weekend lunches. So far we have Bacon Calabrese, Madras Tuna Curry, Smoked Salmon and Southwest Shrimp. We had a can of crab in our cupboard that was expiring soon. The first time we made it, we thought it was ok, but needed something. The next time we made it, we added horseradish. It was better, but still not stellar. This week we added wasabi powder and lemon zest / juice and it was spectacular. One of our cooking techniques is to constantly tweek a recipe until we love it. This was delicious. Light and buttery as omelets should be. Full of flavour. We prefer to buy wasabi powder over paste because the paste expires more quickly than the powder, and we don’t use wasabi that often. Kowloon is a great source of reasonably priced Asian condiments and spices.
This Week’s Cart
Stores considered this week were Metro.ca, Massine’s, Isabella Loblaws, Kowloon and Farm Boy, which are within walking distance, and Walmart, Real Canadian Superstore, Metro Rideau and Food Basics, which are accessible to us by public transit.
If we could get the cheapest price at all the stores, the total amount would be $169.84.
By combining delivery from Walmart, and the Real Canadian Superstore, plus a few strolls to local stores, Charles has obtained a price of $170.68 for this week’s shopping list, only a fraction of a percent higher than the cheapest price if we could shop all the stores.
In this week’s chart each store on its own will cost a shopper anywhere from eight to twenty-eight percent more or an extra $47.73. Any store that provided less than twenty-two of the twenty-five items we were looking for was disqualified.
I wish you nutritious, delicious and affordable meals, lingering conversations with loved ones, joy and whimsy.
