HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK
Chicken Crust Spicy Pizza
The total cost of the meal for two was $13.38 and the single serving was $6.69.
As a diabetic, one of the foods that I have to avoid in its conventional form is pizza. Pizza was a huge part of our diet. I think we must have ordered it in once a week or once every other week. We typically just went for one of the nearby chain pizza fast food joints. There’s a Pizza Pizza down the street. The problem for me is the crust: whether white flour or whole wheat, one small piece spikes my blood sugar. There are all kinds of alternatives, including just eating the toppings on a salad or crusts made of cauliflower. We haven’t tried that yet, but if we do, I’ll get back to you.
This pizza takes time to make, but it is worth it. We have categories for our meals:
never again
needs improvement
good
perfect
stellar
death bed
This week’s meal was 6. death bed—meaning it was a meal i would choose to have for my last meal.
This Week’s Cart
Stores considered this week were Metro.ca, Walmart, Massine’s, Isabella Loblaws, Kowloon and Farm Boy, which are within walking distance, Real Canadian Superstore, Metro Rideau and Food Basics, which are accessible to us by public transit.
If we could get the cheapest price at all the stores, the total amount would be $148.64.
By combining delivery from Walmart, and the Real Canadian Superstore and a few strolls to local stores, Charles has obtained a price of $157.66 for this week’s shopping list, only six percent higher than the cheapest price if we could shop all the stores.
This week Charles decided to use the delivery service from the Real Canadian Superstore. At an additional cost of $4.99, their next-day delivery service is cheaper than the two of us taking the bus. TCSS had deep discounts which made the cost of delivery still a deal. Each store on its own will cost a shopper anywhere from seventeen to sixty-two percent more or a whopping $92.61 extra. Any store that provided less than twenty-nine of the thirty-three items we were looking for was disqualified.
I wish you nutritious, delicious and affordable meals, lingering conversations with loved ones, joy and whimsy.
