Diabetes means I am mindful about carbs and sugar..doesn't mean I can't eat these foods, just that I will eat only in moderation.
Not having a colon however means there are foods that I avoid. Frequent bowel obstructions land me in hospital. High fibre foods are particularly hard on my digestive system.
Raw fish and meat are out of the question because if anything is bad, i will have life threatening gastro intestinal issues.
I never eat the following anymore:
Kale
rice
pasta
sashimi
Raw oysters
Corn on the cob
Popcorn
Anything with almond flour
Fruit such as apples,.oranges, peaches, grapes on their own. I can have them in moderation mixed in with other foods.
White,.yellow and red potatoes.
Nuts and seeds on their own. I avoid the hard to digest seeds like pepitas all together.
Raw sprouts due to dangers of food poisoning.
White bread. I eat whole wheat bread in moderation. I avoid bread with seeds.
Fried foods which are high in carbs.
Food is an individualized and personal journey. Many people have digestive issues. Many people have diabetes. Many have allergies. Many have chronic health and autoimmune issues which make figuring out eating very difficult. I'm with you friends. I'll share my experiences with food here.
Stay tuned for stories like my absolute delight in eating my first solid meal after 14 days I'm ICU on life support. The meal was a hospital dinner and apparently awful but to me it tasted like heaven: meatloaf and mashed potatoes. Ha!
Charles and I have come up with safe and delicious alternatives for meals. I'll share these recipes here too. Like our pizza made with a ground chicken crust.
Stay tuned! Because those of us with healthissues deserve joy in food as well.
Because most people have health issues.
Our family has a similar list of things we can’t (and shouldn’t) eat.
I’m grateful to you and your emphasis on joy and excitement around the foods we can eat. I’m excited too!
I have many food restrictions too, and having a husband who knows how to make delicious food within those restrictions is such a gift! It makes me happy to know you have that too.
